Following on from their fantastic "War of the Eight Saints" album US Metal legends Steel Assassin release their brand new studio effort entitled "World War II Metal of Honor".
As the title already suggests, it is a concept album based on different stories related to the second World War. As guitarist Kevin Curran explains, researching the topic was not done over night: "I did quite a bit of reading and did the research on selected subjects. I've always had a strong interest in World War II and have a good collection of books on the subject. Some of the books I read were 'Guadalcanal Diary' by Richard Tregaskis and 'Four Stars of Hell' by Laurence Critchell, to name a couple."
Musically, Steel Assassin have remained true to their US Metal roots mixing Speed and Power Metal on cleverly penned numbers like "Guadalcanal" or "God save London".
Guitarist Mike Monney comments: "I happen to think it's our most modern sounding body of work to date, yet it retains a gritty, pale, gun-metal sound that is indicative of the era we are trying to capture."
A surprising addition to Steel Assassin's own body of work on "World War II Metal of Honor" is a storming rendition of Rush's classic "Red Sector A", which ties in rather neatly with the military concept of the album.
